Remember to Speak Your Own Love Language to Yourself
We spend so much time learning how to love others betterβbut whenβs the last time you made a point to love yourself the same way?
What About Our Own Love Language?
We talk a lot about love languages and ask our partners to answer a few “get to know you questions,” right? We learn them, we try to understand how our partners, friends, and family receive love, and we even get pretty good at speaking their language. But here’s a thought that’s been on my heart: what about our own love language? Why do we often neglect to pour into ourselves with the same intentionality and understanding we offer to others?
I meet so many incredible people who truly believe that putting themselves first is selfish. They wear selflessness like a badge of honorβand honestly, I used to be right there with them. I thought being everything for everyone else was the ultimate goal. But something shifted. Now, I’m regularly creating new and beautiful ways to love myself.

Itβs Not SelfishβItβs Essential
It’s not selfish; it’s essential. If your love language is words of affirmation, are you speaking kindly to yourself?
Dr. Kristin Neff, author of Self-Compassion, reminds us that βWith self-compassion, we give ourselves the same kindness and care weβd give to a good friend.β
If it’s acts of service, are you doing things that make your life easier and more joyful? If it’s quality time, are you carving out moments just for you?
We have to break free from the idea that self-love is a luxury. It’s the foundation for everything else. When we truly nurture ourselves, we have more to give, more to share, and more joy to experience.
Start a Revolution of Self-Love
So, what’s your love languageβand how are you speaking it to yourself today? Write yourself a love note, schedule an hour just for you this week, or simply pause and say something kind to your reflection.
Letβs start a revolution of self-love, one intentional act at a time.
