Redefining Wellness: Giving Yourself Grace When the Scale Shifts

We live in an aesthetic-driven world where wellness is too often defined by how small we can become instead of how whole we can feel. Social media doesnβt helpβitβs a constant highlight reel of βperfectβ bodies, clean-eating routines, and fitness challenges that make it seem like everyone else has cracked the code.
But hereβs the truth: bodies change. Seasons of life change. And thatβs okay.
Iβve struggled with my weight for most of my adult life. Iβve lost significant weight, gained some back, and tried nearly every fad diet in the bookβyes, even the HCG diet where I survived on 500 calories a day. For years, I measured my worth by the number on a scale or the size on a tag. But as Iβve gotten older (and wiser), Iβve started redefining what wellness means for me.
Wellness is not punishmentβitβs peace. Itβs moving your body because it feels good, not because youβre trying to erase yourself. Itβs eating food that fuels you, not deprives you. Itβs getting enough rest, saying no when youβre stretched thin, and remembering that your body is not a projectβitβs home.
Pressure can come from everywhereβour own minds, our partners, even family or friends who mean well but donβt fully understand what it feels like to live in a body that has constantly been judged. If youβve never struggled with your weight, itβs easy to underestimate the courage it takes to start again.
So if youβre in a season where your body feels unfamiliar, give yourself grace. Keep going. Celebrate every small stepβthe morning walk, the meal that made you feel nourished, the quiet moment you chose rest over guilt.
Because true wellness isnβt about perfection. Itβs about creating a life that helps you feel centered, grounded, and always on a healing journey.
