Five Minutes to Mindful Evenings: A Simple Unwind Ritual
Ever feel like your brain is still “on” hours after the workday ends? You’re not alone. As educators, our days are fullβand winding down isnβt always easy. But what if just five minutes could help you reset?
After a recent wellness retreat for educators, I left with one powerful takeaway: resilience isn’t just about pushing throughβit’s about building rituals that help us pause, recharge, and come back stronger.
Rituals vs. Habits
We often toss around terms like habit, routine, and ritualβbut theyβre not the same.
Rituals are conscious signals to our body and mindβthey help us shift gears. By turning even the smallest routine into a meaningful ritual, we create space for renewal.
- Habit: An automatic action, like brushing your teeth.
- Ritual: A routine infused with intention and meaning. This is where the magic happens.
- Routine: A repeated series of actions, like making coffee while checking the news.
My Simple Unwind Ritual
Hereβs the five-minute ritual that helps me switch off and ease into evening:
- Scent: I rub lavender essential oil on my wrists and temples. The calming scent instantly signals: Kelli slow down and take a deep breath.
- Sip: I enjoy a small glass of tart cherry juice or chamomile tea, sometimes with a bit of magnesium powder. This simple, soothing act helps me transition into rest mode.
- Say + Reflect: I quietly say a positive affirmationβsomething like βIβve done enough for todayββand reflect on one thing Iβm grateful for. Itβs a small moment of self-kindness that helps me end the day grounded and at peace.
Thatβs it. Just five minutesβbut it makes a real difference. Itβs my way of saying, βThe day is over. Itβs time to recover.β
What small ritual could you create to help your mind and body unwind?
Try one tonightβand if it helps, share it with someone else who might need the reminder, too.
Love,Β
