If youโ€™ve been wondering how to start a blog in 2025, my journey might surprise you. In 2018, I stood in front of my NLC cohort presenting my capstone project โ€” a blog concept built around purpose, reflection, and self-discovery. I didnโ€™t know it then, but that moment planted the seed for what would become Love, KelliKelz.

Itโ€™s funny how long ideas can live in our notes app or on a PowerPoint slide before we actually breathe life into them. Looking back, I realize the blog wasnโ€™t waiting on perfect timing โ€” it was waiting on me.

Reflection 1: Your Ideas Arenโ€™t Random

Every dream or idea you canโ€™t shake has a reason. In 2018, โ€œstarting a blogโ€ was my way of naming the urge to share, reflect, change and connect. I wasnโ€™t ready yet, but the idea was an early sign of who I was becoming.

If youโ€™re trying to figure out how to start a blog in 2025, know that the idea usually comes long before the courage to begin.

Reflection 2: Timing Isnโ€™t Always Everything โ€” Readiness Is

Thereโ€™s a difference between having an idea and being prepared to sustain it. Although I didnโ€™t know it at the time, I had to live more life โ€” experience love, loss, healing, and a few growing pains โ€” to finally create the space in my life to write with authenticity and confidence, while giving myself grace at the same time.

Reflection 3: You Canโ€™t Pour From an Empty Cup

My capstone included that quote, and it still rings true. Love, KelliKelz didnโ€™t start until I learned to refill my own cup โ€” with boundaries, therapy, joy, and all the things that light me up.

Reflection 4: Forgiveness Frees Creativity

One of my slides read โ€œForgiving everyone for everything.โ€ It took years for me to realize that forgiveness clears blockages. You canโ€™t write, dream, or build freely when youโ€™re carrying resentment.

Reflection 5: Passion Needs Structure

The NLC project was about purpose, but purpose alone isnโ€™t enough. What makes it real is systemizing it โ€” like my current life planner, content calendars, Reminders app and brand trackers. Passion without a plan is just potential.

For anyone researching how to start a blog in 2025, the structure behind your passion matters just as much as the idea itself.

Reflection 6: People Are Always Watching

Even in 2018, I wrote โ€œpeople are always watching you.โ€ What I didnโ€™t realize is that people arenโ€™t just watching โ€” theyโ€™re inspired by your becoming. Starting your blog, your business, or your creative project might just give someone else permission to start too.

Reflection 7: Youโ€™re Never Late

I used to beat myself up for not launching sooner. But looking back, I see that every season โ€” the personal losses, creative pivots and my healing journey โ€” shaped my voice. Youโ€™re never late to your calling; youโ€™re right on time for your next chapter.

A Full-Circle Reminder

Seeing that old PowerPoint made me smile. What started as a leadership assignment became a roadmap for my life. If youโ€™ve ever had a dream thatโ€™s been sitting untouched for years, consider this your nudge. The dream didnโ€™t die โ€” itโ€™s just been waiting for you to evolve into the version of yourself who can finally bring it to life.

Love, KelliKelz โ€” where passion finally met purpose.
